Billy Tannery

Billy Tannery was created in response to its founders’ discovery that goat and deer hides left over from the UK food industry were not being tanned in this country. They established a pioneering microtannery and now their sustainable, bark-tanned leather completes the circle. Tanning in small batches allows them to focus on the details, on crafting higher quality and more environmentally friendly leather.

The main benefit of vegetable tanning is that it results in characterful leather that will age beautifully, developing a unique patina over years of use, but using natural bark extracts also makes the wastewater easier to treat. The on-site treatment plant results in totally biodegradable waste products that can be composted or used to promote growth on the surrounding grassland.
