Iseabal Hendry Hand-Woven Leather Pen Pot

£295

Iseabal Hendry, a Textile Design graduate of the Glasgow School of Art, was inspired by her admiration of traditional Scottish crafts such as boat-building and thatching to develop her unique woven leatherwork. This stunning, versatile material celebrates time-honoured techniques and materials while reflecting her environmental values and an elegant, modern aesthetic.

She has based her colour palette on childhood memories of growing up in Scotland. The Tenement Green she has used for this pen pot is a cool shade inspired by the tiles in a much-loved Glasgow tenement close.

    More about

    Iseabal Hendry

Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, Iseabal Hendry creates stunning accessories from woven leatherwork that are the result of a coming together of her deeply held environmental values, a modern aesthetic based on time-honoured techniques and materials, and the landscape that surrounds her.  She uses sustainable practices, with the aim of creating a zero-waste product – by weaving very thin strips of leather with cotton she can make use of almost the entire hide. She sources all of her materials from with Europe, trying to be as local as possible – both in order to lower her carbon footprint and to build lasting relationships with her suppliers.

The organic process of vegetable tanning leather results in a unique patina which changes over time as it is held and handled.  The process of hand weaving leather is a time-consuming process that it is meditative in its intricacy. This practice reflects a philosophy of slow fashion and results in a deep understanding of her materials. Iseabal is inspired by the traditional crafts of basket weaving, roof thatching and boat building as well as the dramatic landscape that surrounds her which is in constant flux, transformed by changing seasons the shifting light.
