Iseabal Hendry
Born and raised in the Highlands of Scotland, Iseabal Hendry creates stunning accessories from woven leatherwork that are the result of a coming together of her deeply held environmental values, a modern aesthetic based on time-honoured techniques and materials, and the landscape that surrounds her. She uses sustainable practices, with the aim of creating a zero-waste product – by weaving very thin strips of leather with cotton she can make use of almost the entire hide. She sources all of her materials from with Europe, trying to be as local as possible – both in order to lower her carbon footprint and to build lasting relationships with her suppliers.
The organic process of vegetable tanning leather results in a unique patina which changes over time as it is held and handled. The process of hand weaving leather is a time-consuming process that it is meditative in its intricacy. This practice reflects a philosophy of slow fashion and results in a deep understanding of her materials. Iseabal is inspired by the traditional crafts of basket weaving, roof thatching and boat building as well as the dramatic landscape that surrounds her which is in constant flux, transformed by changing seasons the shifting light.
