Hand-Woven Willow Easter Egg Basket

£130
Option:

The Easter egg hunt has its origins in German folklore, where colourful eggs were hidden by the Easter Hare to be found by children who had been good. Queen Victoria hunted for painted eggs when she was a child and she and Prince Albert continued the tradition with their own children – hiding eggs around the palace and gardens on Maundy Thursday.

This willow-woven basket is just waiting to be filled with chocolate treasure. Aberdeenshire maker Helen Jackson uses her own willow, which she coppices every year when the sap is down and the leaves have fallen before drying it until it is ready to be used. She uses traditional basketry techniques – for this basket she has used a pairing weave on the base, waling weave up the sides and a simple pegged handle. Willow is the ultimate ‘green’ material – absorbing carbon as it grows and regenerating every year after harvest. Being handmade, each basket is entirely unique.

Choose the basket by itself or filled with 24 foil-covered artisan-made eggs from The Braemar Chocolate Shop.
