The Fife Arms Salmon Fishing Rod

£1,550

This salmon rod – 'The dee-cider' – has been created by rod maker Simon Barnes exclusively for The Fife Arms in Crieff, at the heart of Strathearn in Scotland. It is a carbon fibre rod that can be fished either as a single or a double hander – being light and versatile, it is suitable for both fishermen and women. It features a traditional cork handle and thistle-topped cork stoppers for the rod, a nod to the national flower of Scotland.

Each rod comes in a handmade bag – with a pocket to store the stoppers when the rod is in use – and a lightweight aluminium tube. The tube is covered in The Fife Arms house tweed, a robust material crafted for the outdoors designed by textile artist Araminta Campbell and drawing on the colours of the Highland landscape.

MORE ABOUT

SIMBA RODS

Simon Barnes has fished all his life, from being taught by his grandmother to guddle trout in chilly streams to using earthworms as bait in the burns of the Borders from the age of seven. Fly fishing soon became his greatest passion – enjoying the discipline of this skilful sport which involves stealth, precision and great patience. For many years he ran a trout farm and fishery, where beginner anglers of all ages would come to catch their first fish. With the increase of mass-produced fishing rods, Simon was drawn to the idea of making his own bespoke rods. Simba Rods are hand built to order to the very highest standards, with every detail considered, making them a pleasure to hold and to use.
