MORE ABOUT

Napiers

Napiers the Herbalists, Scotland’s oldest natural herbal apothecary, was founded by Victorian botanist Duncan Napier in 1860. Napier (1831 – 1921) was a Scottish botanist, herbalist and businessman. Despite having a deprived childhood and being functionally illiterate until his early teens, he became an expert in herbal remedies and did much to establish herbalism as a recognised branch of medicine. The herbalist business that he founded stayed in his family for three generations and still exists today, with its headquarters in the same shop in Bristo Place that was opened in 1874.

Helen Jackson

Helen Jackson uses traditional techniques of willow basket making while exploring new ideas and forms. Using soft plant fibres to make baskets requires specialist skills, such as looping, coiling, twining and plaiting. Helen is a member of the Scottish Basketmakers’ Circle, the Heritage Crafts Association and the Heckleburn Quines – an artist and makers’ collective based in Banchory – and has recently been given the prestigious honour of being made Yeoman Member of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.
